So if you’re a regular Basecamp user you probably hate their interface and wish you could change it. Or…you wish there was a cute little widget you can have floating around your desktop, notifying you of new messages and to-dos and such. There is one, but it’s an Apple Dashboard Widget and if you’re a Windows or Linux user you’re out of luck (as always, when it comes to pretty things).
Well, I had the pleasure of speaking to the developer of this awesome app (pictured below) and asked if I got enough “votes” for making a similar AIR app for the rest of us would he do it. And he said, and I quote – “Perhaps
“.
So, leave a comment and I’ll point him to this post when we have enough!
You know you want to use this for your projects. Let him know and leave a comment.
UPDATE: If you don’t want to wait for an AIR app for Basecamp, AlertThingie just added this functionality to their new app. It’s not nearly as powerful as the widget above, but if you want a twitter-like feed of Basecamp activities, it’ll do the job.

I know I want an adobe air app for basecamp and backpack and an iphone app too but im pretty sure this is too simple an interface.
@Matt – you could make suggestions for the app while at it
I might have a go at an interface Vera,
This widget is good as a widget because its only there when you click dashboard. Imagine if it was on your desktop all the while. Think twitter clients if they looked like this then you would be constantly clearing them off your desktop.
Oh, that would be awesome! I love your work!
I can always minimize the widget into my systray, plus it’s pretty small, and I really wouldn’t mind having it on my desktop rather than having to open Basecamp in my browser and navigating through that terrible UI.
Please build it! Beautiful mockups by the way.
Oh please, please. Pretty please.
Sure i will try that!
A suggestion – Can you imagine a simple way to time tracking for the basecamp to-dos in this widget?
Please, so many people wanna have this.
I would LOVE it! The mac users in the office get the widget, why not I?!?

I have never managed to get the Dashboard Widget to work, but if it worked as an AIR app then that would be very cool.
It would be really great to have an AIR app for basecamp.
Definitely such application would be nice. It would be better if it is open source (from security point of view ).
Have you had alook at this

@Paul No I haven’t seen that until now, but it’s not quite the same as Lachlan’s app. Yours looks more like a substitute for Basecamp’s own UI, except in an AIR environment. His is simply a widget to keep you updated on what’s going on inside the projects, which is really what I (for one) need. It’s there to provide more of an overview, rather than a fully functional Basecamp environment.
I’m interested. Easy to use time tracking interface with a timer would be fairly critical for us.
Please do it!
Yes, do it open source
Yes and re yes, please do it
Yes, I would really appreciate a desktop widget for this tool
Oh hell yes, please. Dashboard widgets (IMO) are worthless. An air app for basecamp would be IDEAL.

Vote vote – might need tweaking, but this would be very helpful.
[...] currently SOL. But, someone’s trying to change that. Take a look at this post: “Basecamp Widget for Adobe AIR” and submit a comment if you’d like an AIR app that can be brought to Windows. [...]

I think simple is the way to go with basecamp… build it baby
yes yes yes!!! :O This would be fully awesome for productivity!
